Out of Town

So, I'm going to Japan on Friday for a week and a half. I'm travelling with my brother, Rob.

Blogging may not be a priority for me for the next ten days, but I will try to get something up at some point along the way . . .

This drawing is of an area called Ueno in Tokyo, but you knew that if you could read Japanese . . . I drew it the last time I was there . . .

Stuff Happens

Stuff Happens closed last week at The Public Theatre. My friend Lameece was in it; she was crazy good. I got to draw it a couple of times, but this was the best of the bunch.

Body of Work

Julio Bocca retired last week from American Ballet Theatre. This drawing features every ballet he danced during his career at ABT. There was a big party on the grand tier at the Met after his performance. Somewhere in Argentina I am walking across the background of a television news story, looking for another glass of wine. If anyone notices, they will think that this is what I always do.

Taking Requests

I've been working on a big drawing this week and I'll be putting it up on Wednesday. In the meantime, this is one of my favorite cartoons and it's up here by request . . . going out to Blue Eyes . . .

It's also for my Aunt Nancy who always liked this one . . .

Unfinished

Well, I'm still working on it; a little more detail left to do.

Allison isn't nuts about these ones where every direction is right-side up, but I hope she'll give it another try.

I started it during a meeting of the Spark-plugs a week and a half ago and worked on it last weekend when I was down in Virginia for my brother's high-school graduation. The woman who gave the commencement speech kept yelling at the graduates and the crowd that we should seize the day. She was very insistent, even resorting to Latin on several occassions.

Later, I told my brother (who's graduating with an ache) that there are no beginnings and there are no ends and he told me that I should have given the commencement speech, but I don't think he meant it.

Something New

Welcome to everyone who's getting here through the new web-site.

The logo here was all Bob's idea. He sent me an image with empty block letters and told me to fill it in. I was skeptical at first, but I really like it. I always wanted a nick-name and a logo. In recent years my full name has become my nick-name and now my nick-name has become my logo.

A few weeks ago I bought a new suit. The Chinese/Malaysian sales-woman who was helping me asked my name and when I told her, "Michael," she said, "Oh. Lot of people named Michael."

Entourage

This is Ronit and Kimberlee dancing the night away. It has been observed that the drawing is not anatomically correct.

Excuses, Excuses . . .

It's hot in NYC and I haven't put in my AC yet. It makes writing hard. I like it to be cool to cold when I'm working and it is warm and sticky and it has happened too soon (I blame the people marketing Al Gore's new movie) . . . so, this is an old drawing from my sketchbook that I've always been fond of . . . .
